Events

Treibhaus

When you visit the "Treibhaus" you'll immediately see that it's something special. From the outside it looks like an octagonal tower. If you go inside you'll find a café with a bar on the ground floor and a small concert hall, that can be easily adapted to serve as a theatre, on the first floor. A part of the café is laid out to serve as a children's playground which can be extended into the garden in fine weather. The atmosphere is comfortable for older people too. So you see there is room for everybody in the Treibhaus.

The Treibhaus offers a wide range of events. From cabaret, and theatre for children to classical concerts, punk, pop and jazz music.

Last summer a project called "Volksgarten: braking down the fences!" was started. In the course of this project a number of free concerts took place and everybody could come and listen to some of the best musicians of the world for free.

And that's what most people love about the Treibhaus: You don't have to spend a lot of money there in order to have fun. This is best illustrated by another example: Every Sunday morning a band is playing at Treibhaus, sometimes famous artist and sometimes still unknown newcomers. And there too you don't pay an entry, you just give as much money as you can afford as a little contribution.

Utopia

The Utopia organised one of our first internet cafés! Like the Treibhaus it is an insider-tip. Apart from the café they also have a small concert hall for great concerts. A diverse range of music can be heard there, it ranges from classical to punk - everything is represented there.

Theatres

At our "Tiroler Landestheater" you can enjoy classical plays and experimental interpretations as well as dance plays, operas and operettas.

In numerous smaller theatres you can see folk plays and new and experimental plays by Austrian writers.

In the larger area around Innsbruck countless events take place all the year round.

Especially popular in winter are sportive events that include concerts and parties.

Maybe you heard about one or the other.

During this summer many events take place:

First I want to mention the 6th international film festival, where films from and about Asia, Africa and America are shown. Of course in their original language.

The festival is organised by the Cinematograph, which is one of our cinemas where films are shown in their original language the whole year round.

In the evenings there is also an open air cinema in the Zeughaus, which is a Folk museum during the day.

Finally I want to list some of the bigger events taking place this summer:

Festival der Träume - festival of dreams: it takes place in the whole city, many artists will be hanging around to play for the people.
Aida - The opera: An open air performance in the Berg Isel stadium.
Summer theatre at the Franziskanerplatz (open air).
Schloß Ambras (a very old castle, fifteen minutes from the city centre), which is a terrific backdrop for events like: "Alla Turca": A day for the family - singers, dancers, and all kinds of entertainers want you to join in games and fairy tales.
The festival weeks of old music.
